Japan
Global Commerce conducted a trade mission to Southeast Asia in April 2007. Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce once again led a business delegation, visiting Japan, Taiwan and Korea. The Asia Mission 2007 delegation consisted of almost 30 participants, representing a variety of industries and professional services. Nagoya
Visits in the city of Nagoya included several Japanese companies with operations in the metro Atlanta area (Rinnai, Hoshizaki and Nichiha). The delegation also visited with potential prospects. To celebrate the sister city relationship between Fukuoka and Atlanta, the Mayor of Fukuoka hosted Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and the delegation in several activities, including a tour of the city and a reception to meet with several local companies to raise awareness for metro Atlanta. The metro Atlanta delegation also presented a seminar to local companies interested in locating or expanding in the U.S. The delegation next moved to Tokyo to visit with several Japanese companies to thank them for their investment in Atlanta and for their continued support of our region. They also met with companies interested in learning more about investing in the U.S. as well as hosted a reception for approximately 100 U.S. and Japanese attendees.
